A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) consists of an evaluation which documents the patient’s current ability to perform work from a physical, medical, behavioral, and ergonomic perspective. An FCE will identify how much a person can lift and in what positions, whether they can bend, squat, or reach, and to what extent they are able to function with their hands.
The Most Common Reasons to Utilize an FCE:
- To establish safe working restrictions prior to return to work
- To validate a workers’ injury and limitations
- To identify if continued medical management is necessary
